Forgotten Space

Since we moved in, our Blue Room has been full of Stuff That We'll Deal With Later. Boxes of work inventory, paperwork in piles (drifts!), camping equipment, extra chairs, extra furniture, etc, packed in so that it wasn't elsewhere taking up space. Last week, Mom took the two superfluous desk chairs away, and helped me get the twin bed frame into the front yard for redistribution.

It's strange to walk out of our bedroom and see straight through to the front window of the Blue Room. It's a lot brighter in the hall, now, and I can walk in and imagine what that space would be like when it's more than just a storage unit. I've started pacing out where the furniture will fit, and how to make the best of a small space.

I've got about six years of filing to catch up on, and the old desk to clear out. Then we'll be down to just extraneous boxes, repairs, and setting the room up for real. It didn't take long for the Polka Dot Room to become the office, after a couple coats of paint, some furniture, and a few weeks of working in there on a regular basis.

Every once in awhile it strikes me that our house is so much bigger than anywhere I've lived post-college. As we get more organized, the livable square footage increases and it feels like our home gets bigger and bigger. I guess that's one of the hidden joys of a fixer-upper. Once we do enough work to really get settled, the place feels huge compared to when we moved in. ^^
