Traveling blues

We got up early this morning. I should say that M got up early, springing out of bed into the Autumnal crispness without hesitation, and that I rolled over and buried my face deeply into my pillow, trying to ignore the tendrils of daylight that slipped through the Apricot's foliage and made a ready assault on our bedroom. The blinds, when left open, are nearly useless.

M packed and fussed and organized, and I groused my way into (cold!) real clothes so that we could head out for the airport. He's going back to RTP for a Monday-Tuesday meeting, and that means we give up our Sunday together to work. I used to not mind as much, but I mind a lot now. That doesn't stop either of us from getting in the car, or going to work when we're called. It's just one of the compromises we make now so we won't have to later.

We were lucky enough to get Thursday and Friday together, so I really have no room to complain. On Thursday, we ran some errands and tried the sushi place near our house and then caught choir together. Visiting choir is a lot like going home. I'm always warmly welcomed, and I can usually fit in without having to think much. M ran into a church friend at class, too, which was an unexpected (but pleasant) surprise.

On Friday, we re-arranged the house enough to fit five into the office for WoW. It's a lot of fun to run an instance all together, in the same room. It's reminiscent of LAN parties at George's at the end of our UCSD quarters, but with a different group and far fewer zerglings.

So it's not so much that we don't spend time together... it's just that I miss him when he's gone. All the while, we're cognizant that these are the jobs that pay the bills and let us fix up the house and acquire the things that we hope to have with us for a long time to come. On that front, the new patio door is on order (coming soon!) and we've met and fallen in love with our future couch. The couch's consort -- overstuffed armchair of awesomeness -- will not be joining the family until we've replaced our bed, and sorted out a couple other projects.
